Guided Prayers
How to pray for lost friends:
1. That Satan is bound from blinding them to the truth. Satan will do anything to discourage our prayers for others. As you pray for the salvation of your friend, remember that Christ gives us the authority over all the power of Satan. You can bind Satan’s power in Jesus name, by prayer and praise, and by quoting Scripture (Matt. 4:1-11). In Christ and in His name, you are more than a conqueror. Ask others to pray for you as you pray for your friends.
When anyone hears the word about the kingdom and doesn’t understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one sown along the path. (Matthew 13:19, CSB)
In their case, the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Corinthians 4:4, CSB)
2. That they seek to know God. God has optimistic plans for their life. He promises to reveal Himself and His plans to those who seek Him wholeheartedly!
He did this so that they might seek God, and perhaps they might reach out and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. (Acts 17:27, CSB)
But from there, you will search for the Lord your God, and you will find him when you seek him with all your heart and all your soul. (Deuteronomy 4:29, CSB)
3. That they believe the Scriptures. A non-Christian does not naturally understand the Gospel. You must pray that the Holy Spirit will give them the understanding so they may believe the truth of His Word.
For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is the power of God to us who are being saved. (1 Corinthians 1:18, CSB)
4. That God draws them to Himself. We must always remember that, although God uses us as the instruments to share the message and help lead people to Him, only God can convict and convert them. One cannot receive Christ until God first draws him. Let us therefore pray that God will draw our friends to Him.
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him upon the last day. (John 6:44, CSB)
5. That the Holy Spirit works in them to turn from their sin and follow Christ as Lord. Be willing to turn them over to God’s holy pressure (Luke 15:17-18). Be bold enough to pray that God will cause things to come into their lives that will cause them to seek Him. (Proverbs 20:30)
When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. (John 16:8, 13, CSB)
Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out. (Acts 3:19, CSB)
6. That God send someone to lead them to Christ. Perhaps that someone is you. Pray that you can be used in their life to speak to them about Christ, be sure you mean it. (Romans 10:14-15)
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:37-38, CSB)
7. That they believe in and confess Christ as Savior and Lord. It is important that a person understand that in receiving Christ as Savior, they must also make Him the Lord or “boss” of their lives. Pray that they will understand the seriousness of the commitment to receive Christ. Pray that they will come to grasp the scope of God’s love. As their loving Father, He will never ask them to give up anything without giving them something far better in return.
But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name. (John 1:12, CSB)
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. (Romans 10:9-10, CSB)
